Qi - The Sun Controversy

Recommended Posts

I always heard that Sunlight exposure increases Qi, BUT EVERYTIME I expose myself for more than 1hour in sunlight it makes me SO SLEEPY, why does this happen? Energetically speaking do you guys know something about it?

Does it really increases Qi or it's just me exposing myself too much and causing the reverse effect?

It's summer where I live so now we can go the beach and well I thought that it was a nice opportunity to get that sunlight which I can't get in winter, but it makes me so sleepy afterwards.

Only when the sun hits your back, not the front, otherwise you age fast and little increase in Chi.   There is also skin cancer to worry about.   BTW I thought England is the worst already, Norway is even more rainy?

Yeah, it’s the mountains. The clouds colide with them and the rain falls.

200 days is a lot.  Singapore, Indonesia are about 150 days, Malaysia, Taiwan 200 days.  But all of them have a lot of sun, sometimes perhaps too much.   I think Taiwan is as mountainous as Norway.  Their highest is 4000 metres, and is a range which is similar to Norway and thus the prolonged rainy days with moisture from the sea.

I do to, acctually. Wind and rain against the window at night is vibes. But 200 days a year might be a little to much?

Yea but where I live it's so hot most of the time and not that rainy, it could rain a little more

In your understanding, sunlight doesn't interfere with chi levels?

As far as I know, it doesn't if you can breathe perfectly and more than normal.

I mean, I dont like to tell people they are wrong, but sunlight has notideble effect on wellbeing. There is a reason why humans vary in skin colour, after all.

It was due the duration of exposure to the skin. It has nothing to do with Chi.

Well, I am not one to argue with you, as you has a much clearer understanding of eastern thought then I. I always interpreted chi as some kind of.. vitality/lifeforce?

In the Yinyang five elements system the sun and its Qi is symbolized by the caracter 丙 Yang Fire.

Some people bear Yang Fire as their core nature which includes vitality/lifeforce.

….  Cobid 🤯

Why do you think exposure to the sun influenced skin color??

@ChiDragon

How would you describe it?

To make it simple, from my recollection. There are pigments beneath the skin layers that respond to sunlight. If there is too much sunlight, then, the pigments will come up near the skin to darken the color of rhe skin.

Mhm I haven’t looked into the mechanic, but it boils down the balance to resist UV radiation and vitamin D. In places closer to the equator, people are darker because they need protection to the stronger radiation, while further north people tend to be lighter because it increases their ability to absorb vitamin d. Hunter gatherers in Europe was actually quite dark (some of them at least, they were very diverse) because they got enough vitamin d trough a animal products. This changed with agriculture.

Point is, sunlight has notable effects on well being. Here we have something called winter depression. Likewise, white people in the southern hemisphere have problems with the radiation from the strong sunlight ☀️

Belive me, after months of darkness, the first sunlight feels like heaven.
