Lataif Posted March 5 Please: (1) Anyone ever see a discussion of the working of Chi being a kind of psycho-physiological "intelligence" (?) (2) Anything like that (?) (3) For example, in most practical experiences with Chi . . . you don't have to understand what the corresponding imbalance is or how to resolve it. (4) You can just trust that the presence of Chi will figure that out for you . . . Thanks.
Lairg Posted March 6 It is clear to me that Chi is intelligent. Indeed all energies have at least elemental intelligence. If Chi is intelligent then it has coherence and relationship and intention 22 minutes ago, Lataif said: don't have to understand what the corresponding imbalance is or how to resolve it. Unless you are contributing to the imbalance. What is the use of free will if you cannot manage your experiences?
Lataif Posted March 6 We agree. But is there any explicit elaboration on this in Daoist literature anywhere (?)

(4) You can just trust that the presence of Chi will figure that out for you . . . Thanks. For Kung fu, cultivation, Chinese medicine, Chi is perceived and treated like blood, i.e. the usual term of "blood and Chi". There will be imbalances and it would not correct itself. e.g. The usual symptom of runaway Yang Chi is very common. When a person is over active (include QiGong too), without sufficient sleep, eating too much fried, spicy food, cannot "sink" the Chi in Taichi, concentrate in the third eye during meditation.... The Chi will rise up and creates red eyes, gum swollen, sores on the skin, dry eyes, constipation, high blood pressure, diabetes in the long term and so on. Some cultivator would term it as "Evil Chi". It normally won't correct itself unless certain actions are taken, or you wait real long. e.g. sleep more, eat less, more vegetables, more liquids, control emotions, slow down the life, special breathing, taking herbal tea, see Chinese doctor, focus attention on foot meridian point. Actions are dependent on the possible causes. It can be short term and long term. Modern speculation says it is the over run autonomic nervous system syndrome. This is not related to the Celestial Chi or Real Chi which is a higher phenomenon.
Nintendao Posted March 6 (edited) As for texts i feel like the Neiye hints at this in various ways. It's why the usual theme of practicing wu-wei, so the Dao may inform the qi to operate. I call it De, who usually translates to virtuous, but is also a kind of intelligent substance. Edited March 6 by Nintendao

(1) This is the kind of thing that I had in mind, thanks. (2) So the nature of Dao includes it being an "intelligent substance" -- that's presumably at the macro level. (3) What about the micro level (?) (4) Is there any idea of our personal "Chi" having a corresponding dimension that is a kind of subtle body (substance) . . . which is intelligent by virtue of being informed by the Dao (?) Lairg Posted March 7 Is there any energy that is not intelligent - at least at the elemental level?
