Its waterproof ... the only issue is  when it gets taken out and  exposed to water  ..... it sprouts mushrooms    - but that could be good on a long trip

reminds me of birch bark canoes made by North American Indians...

but not as edible.

Aussie version from 'paperbark tree' 

 

 

 

 

here is Luke , my teacher's nephew ,  showing some paperbark skills  .... to harvest it you don't even need to make a stone knife , the right shaped river rock will do it ;
