but the movement is growing stronger and more united as we realise that "they" are scared, because we are speaking truths that are truly inconvenient, and the only thing they can resort to is violence, unjustified arrests, confiscating materials (we had to carry out the whole action having lost the truck that had the better sound system and without the army of cyclists who were meant to protect us by surrounding us)... the talks are hijacked by the corporations, that we need real solutions to real problems, and a bunch of other messages... and guess what! A good deal of the people there clapped for ages!!!

 

Regarding democracy... they have picked up activists here and there, arresting them for no reason and "disappearing" them - people have been picked up by police from the places where they are staying, from the demos or from the street in broad daylight, and some are still missing. Is this what "democracy" now looks like??

 

they have done some of the worst things they could possibly do - they have included agriculture and forestry into the deal by:

 

* establishing that the carbon emission limitation strategy will focus on carbon sequestration, including specifically three things: no-till industrial agriculture with OGMs, biochar and biomass

* proposing that monoculture "forests" be considered as carbon sinks: that means that palm oil or jatropha monoculture plantations will be subsidized AND be given carbon credits!

* 70% of the planned "reductions" in emissions will come from projects carried out in the South (eg. monoculture forests, agrofuels or GM crops)

* new "renewable" energies will be promoted as Clean Develpment Mechanisms (CDMs, which means permits and subsidies): "clean" coal, biochar and biomass, and no-till soya

Plus all of these plans would cause appropriation of more than 1.5 billion hectares of mainly indigenous and peasant land all over the world... 1.5 times the size of India!!! In the name of protecting the climate!

 

They have hijacked the talks, and two days before Obama arrives and everyone is pressured to "sign the deal" (and with civil society pretty much out of the talks completely and poor countries being bullied and silenced) they have introduced the measures that experts and civil society have been trying to fight off for months and years!!!

These are all hallmarks of NW0 strongarming.

 

- Using Stalinist tactics to forcibly silence democratic dissent

- Selective mass media coverage that omits or downplays public protests (these protests & global police brutality get scant or no coverage here)

- Camouflaging their dirty agendas behind Orwellian Doublespeak (like subsidizing GMO monocultures under the guise of "fighting global warming")

- Exploiting & hurting the people they're claiming to help

- Using tight deadlines to rush volumnous legislation through to sidestep democratic due process & thorough analysis (like Pelosicare)

 

Again, people need to really distinguish between true grassroots movements by the people & banker-funded ones forced upon the people. The difference can be in hundreds of millions of lives.

 

They also need to read behind the corporate headlines & between the lines to uncover the real story. With the internet & fingertip access to info, there is little excuse to be intellectually lazy anymore. Don't be blindly supporting banker-backed Trojan Horse causes like some naive, pot-smoking college hippy. Make sure you know what you're actually supporting before you toss your hat in their ring.

Well, I don't deny climate change and there probably is global warming...but people shouldn't support the hijacking & exploitation of this by NW0 interests to further their own agenda. Which, as was explained above, contains a lot of ecologically-harmful provisions. These causes need to be defined & fought on our own grassroots terms. Just like these activists are trying to do. *applause*

 

BTW, in all the media hype over climate change, where's the concern over our growing plastic pollution problem? Giant plastic gyres are now forming in all our oceans...and no one seems to give a damn about it. Because if a tree falls in the forest & the mass media doesn't report it...then it "didn't happen?"

All the water samples were found to contain derivatives of polystyrene, a common plastic used in disposable cutlery, Styrofoam, and DVD cases, among other things, said Saido, who presented the findings at a meeting of the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C., today.

 

Plastic, he said, should be considered a new source of chemical pollution in the ocean.

 

The toxic compounds the team found don't occur naturally in the ocean, and the researchers thought plastic was the culprit.

 

The scientists later simulated the decomposition of polystyrene in the sea and found that it degraded at temperatures of 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius).

 

Left behind in the water were the same compounds detected in the ocean samples, such as styrene trimer, a polystyrene by-product, and bisphenol A, a chemical used in hard plastics such as reusable water bottles and the linings of aluminum cans.

Because 40 percent of the oceans are classified as subtropical gyres, a fourth of the planet's surface area has become an accumulator of floating plastic debris.

"Except for the small amount that's been incinerated--and it's a very small amount--every bit of plastic ever made still exists," Moore says, describing how the material's molecular structure resists biodegradation. Instead, plastic crumbles into ever-tinier fragments as it's exposed to sunlight and the elements. And none of these untold gazillions of fragments is disappearing anytime soon: Even when plastic is broken down to a single molecule, it remains too tough for biodegradation.

 

Ask a group of people to name an overwhelming global problem, and you'll hear about climate change, the Middle East, or AIDS. No one, it is guaranteed, will cite the sloppy transport of nurdles as a concern. And yet nurdles, lentil-size pellets of plastic in its rawest form, are especially effective couriers of waste chemicals called persistent organic pollutants, or POPs, which include known carcinogens such as DDT and PCBs.

My point here is how the mass media purposely frames our worldview...and to see the actual holistic reality - we need to consciously look outside that media-defined box..

About oil from trash. There is a company called Envion which made a new (as they say) technology of turning plastic bottles to oil.

Excellent find, thanks! Let's spread the word out to environmental groups & politicians! Raise the flag on this!

 

Think about it - we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone here. Get rid of toxic plastic while relieving dependency on foreign oil or risky offshore drilling at the same time! This is a real win-win, FOLKS!

vortex, I'm with you on the sadness of plastic pollution. Here's a creative way to reuse a plastic soda bottle...

 

 

 

 

 

I did some blacksmithing work so I learned to recycle. What is important is to be a smart buyer dont take plastic if you eat out ask for paper bags watch what you buy.I cut my trash to one small bag a week by recycling.
