Jedi777 Posted April 10, 2009 There is no such thing as "internal martial arts"... ...but so long as we are pretending, I'll share the real-life conversation that one of Leung Sheung's disciples kindly reported to me. Student: Is Wing Chun an "internal family" art? Yip Man: No. now this is a funny post---and a sad post to bad for you
Mal Posted April 11, 2009 Interesting quote from Yip Man. This generation of TCMA # Wu Zu Quan or Go Cho Kune (Five Ancestors Boxing) # Yong Chun Quan (Wing Chun) # Fujian Bai He Quan (Fujian White Crane Boxing) # Bak Mei (White Eyebrow) # Lung Ying (Dragon boxing) # Tong Long (Southern Praying Mantis) are often attributed as combining internal and external "powers" (If you want to buy into the internal external debate) But I think Martial Development said it pretty well in the link The definitions of internal and external martial arts are too vague and shallow to fuel the deep reflection and analysis that lead to mastery. Dedicated students and teachers of martial arts should move beyond them, without hesitation.
林愛偉 Posted April 11, 2009 Interesting quote from Yip Man. This generation of TCMA # Wu Zu Quan or Go Cho Kune (Five Ancestors Boxing) # Yong Chun Quan (Wing Chun) # Fujian Bai He Quan (Fujian White Crane Boxing) # Bak Mei (White Eyebrow) # Lung Ying (Dragon boxing) # Tong Long (Southern Praying Mantis) are often attributed as combining internal and external "powers" (If you want to buy into the internal external debate) But I think Martial Development said it pretty well in the link External is likened to using excessive force, momentum driven applications and development. Internal is likened to using just enough of the body's contraction of muscles, alignment of joints, cultivation of physics; posture, movement, and last but not least, deep and unmoved concentration. It is such that every martial arts should have this..but not all do. Is it in Wing Chun? Yes. Peace, Lin
