Cameron Posted September 17, 2008 I tried to buy a bottle of Centrum while I was in NY a few weeks ago. Brought it up to the counter. When I got home I saw that it wasn't in the bag and I wasn't charged for it. Somehow just didn't make it. I wasn't paying any attention while my stuff was getting rung up. So I took that as a sign not to bother with a multi. What I am trying to do now is actually eat more fruits and veggies and get the micronutrients from that. mantis Posted September 17, 2008 i take this multi-vitamin http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/men.html although my urine is neon yellow that only has to do with high levels of B vitamins. look at our current athletes and compare their records with the athletes of old and you'll see who has their performance down. not everything modern is evil lol. just my 2 cents
seadog Posted September 17, 2008 Well one test you can do is put each of the vitamins in seperate glasses of water and note how long they take to breakdown. Any vitamin worth its weight should breakdown in thrity to forty minutes anything longer and you have to be a bit suss. Once I tested these vitamins I got sent for America after TWO DAYS they still hadn't broke down. Some companys bind there pills together with rock dust! So unless you have battery strength stomach acid your not going to be getting a whole lot out of such pills. A fellow I know who worked at the Werribe poo farm outside of Melbourne explained to me the thing that clogs up the filters the most---- undigested supplements! witch Posted September 17, 2008 No. No, no, no. If you are going to take kitchen sink herbals, almost always a bad idea, certainly don't take them with your multivitamin! If you want to take herbals, why not do TCM? Get something custom? In my opinion, no one should take damiana every day as a vitamin, even in small amounts. gendao Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) In my opinion, no one should take damiana every day as a vitamin, even in small amounts.Too bad, cuz otherwise that looks like a decently-cheap but comprehensive multi. So, what's a good multi, then? I've been looking for one...but many are quite expensive. BTW, I always chew or at least crack hard vitamins with my teeth first before swallowing to aid digestion. I'm surprised nobody else does this? Edited September 17, 2008 by vortex
satyagraha Posted September 17, 2008 I was told very STERNLY that Centrum is filled mostly with stimulants - My acupuncturist works closely with an independant researcher who is very credible, the results that he found were that centrum contained about %15 of what it said it did, the rest was designed to give you a burst of energy. DO NOT USE CENTRUM! Spectrient - if one is looking for a multi-vitamin comes most reccomended from my acupuncturist and her researcher - if you wish to know more and why contact me. mantis Posted September 17, 2008 acupuncture sessions cost a shit ton more than a multi-vitamin, though
Trapper Posted September 17, 2008 I use a multi recommended by my chiro, and it seems to work well for me. Beyond that I am fairly clueless.
mwight Posted September 17, 2008 I take a good multi vitamin, Fish oil, Green tea extract, and blueberry extract every day. I try to stay away from crazy stuff, and stick to whole food extracts. I know too many people who have damaged their kidneys taking 5000 pills a day of weird stuff.
Tired? Stressed?! Posted October 7, 2008 (edited) Great Day to All! We love to hear all the feedback about our Swisse products and would like to provide some further information for you about the ingredients used in our multivitamins. Yes, we include a large range of ingredients, combining vitamins, minerals and herbs in order to promote general health and well-being. Vitamins are micronutrients - essential for human nutrition and needed to convert the macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats and proteins)into a more bio-available form so we can reap the energy-producing benefits. There are two groups of vitamins - the fat soluble (A, D, E and K) which can be stored in body tissues; and the water-soluble (mainly B-vitamins and vitamin C) which are easily lost in cooking processes and are required on a daily basis as they do not store very well in the body. So, we need our water soluble vitamins daily, and unless you are eating a great diet full of fresh, organic fruit and vegetables, not smoking, drinking or eating processed and refined foods, and not under too much stress then you should be okay. However, for the rest of us, the B-vitamins and vitamin C are easily lost and a multi-vitamin is a great way to ensure daily adequate intakes. However, not all multi-vitamins are the same, so make sure you check the levels of B-vitamins before purchasing, otherwise you might as well not bother as the level of B-vitamins in some brands is hardly worth the tablet they are in. Next, the all important minerals - these make up about 4-5% of our body matter and assist in energy production as well as a wide variety of body functions. Minerals come from the soil that our plants grow in, are harder to absorb than vitamins and are essential to our health as they are a part of all cells and therefore are required for proper functioning of all cells. We have all heard of mineral deficiency conditions and they are becoming more prevalent in society due to decreased mineral intake from poor diet, over-cultivation of soils, leaching during cooking processes, refining of food and environmental pollution. So now we know the vitamins and minerals are essential, but how about those herbs? Well, we have included carefully selected herbs into our multi-vitamins for a few reasons: 1. To assist with absorption of the vitamins and minerals; 2. To assist with tonifying all systems of the body; 3. For their antioxidant properties (these guys scavenge free radicals to minimize cell damage). All the herbs are safe to take in the doses found in the multi-vitamins and work synergistically to promote health and well-being. Finally, the Probiotics - these are found in our new range of specifics multi-vitamins which include: Glucose Balance (to help balance blood sugar levels); Teenace (for teenagers); Gluten Free (this is also dairy and animal product free - suitable for vegetarians and vegans); No Iron or Iodine (for people with iron and/or iodine challenges) and 50+ years (assist more with memory and digestive function) - these multi-vitamins contain the Probiotics as the specific challenges they are tailored fro are generally associated with decreased digestive functioning and nutrient absorption. Probiotics are the "good" bacteria that are required for nutrient absorption in the digestive tract as well as for production of certain vitamins. We hope this answers all questions you may have about multi-vitamins, however for more information feel free to contact us at Swisse Vitamins head office. Alternatively, if you would like a more independent review then check out healthycomparisons.com - this involves a panel of natural health practitioners reviewing various health supplements in the marketplace. We wish you all a happy and healthy day, from the Swisse Team and their friendly resident Naturopath. Edited October 7, 2008 by Tired? Stressed?!
Mal Posted October 8, 2008 Thanks for the info. FWIW I changed back to Swisse after I got a nice email back from customer service (You perhaps? No reply from Evidin) I'm taking the Mens Ultivite in the capsules so that I can take a 1/2 dose (one rather than 2) with my evening meal.
