I dont know maybe our long nightmare of fascism is over. Maybe obama will be able to save the economy, and restore freedoms and civil liberties lost, and fix education and bring us energy independence, and develop new technologies beyond our wildest dreams, fix healthcare, and try Bush for murder and war crimes...

But man he's got his plate full.

I guess I am just a cynic at heart, and this feels way too god damn good to be true..

When anything seems to good to be true, in my life it usually has turned out to be... so I'm weary trying to figure what is going on.

Ya know?

I was told I (did not check that myself) that Obama's campaign was funded by major corporations.

If that is right, what can we expect other than slight modifiaction of what we have seen?

I agree. President Elect Obama represents change, but is he change? This is why I couldn't vote for either candidate. Because it's politics, and politicians these days are all basically puppets for more powerful people. Maybe not all of them...but who knows.

Besides that: I just don't think the presidency is that big of a deal in the scheme of things. It's just one aspect of our country's government. Yeah, it's an important and influential part, but it's just that the presidency is so hyper focused on...when it shouldn't be so much...just my opinion.

I'm glad history was made. Although it was kind of sad to see the news just interviewing tons of black people. I thought we were past that. It was also sad to see a lot of the good men I deployed with saying racist comments and then getting all sore that their side lost the election. And I'm sure some of my family members will have negative things to say, especially my grandparents who still think he's a Muslim.:blink:

All in all, it was fun to watch this all unfold, and it will be fun to see what happens in the next few years. B)

Could anyone give me some clear information about our new president's true believe (religion, philosophy) ? I heard many information, such as Christian, Muslim, Marxist (communist), socialist etc.

I'm not clear about the drama of his pre-pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and his church(Trinity United Church of Christ). Obama resigned from Trinity Church. Did the new president go to some other church ?

An Offer of hope for a lot of folks after the last few elections.

I wasn't able put much faith in what seems just illusion ... an offer of hope.

Hmm, guess i'm looking for honesty that may not exist in the world of politics?

This just seemed as ... something to pacify a child ...

like a shiny ballon.

Balloons fly away. Balloons pop. Or just shrivel up?

Neither of the 2 main candidates were much comfort!

Do either have the skills needed? I don't know that they do. Maybe?

Most folks that preached politics to me these past few months

(They didn't converse mind you, was like they were all ready "brain washed")

where going to vote for him.

You could tell which tv channels they were watching by what they had to say.

And basically it seemed to come down to, not the issues,

not the level of skills acquired by the candidates,

But who they had been told would win.

People are sheep. Easily influenced.

I like Obama's Charisma too, but is he skilled?

They had been convinced he was going to win and who wants to vote for a looser, lol?

It's rather sick and very disheartening to watch.

But maybe I'm wrong? LOL, Have been before!

It's just this old age and all these grey hairs

that have left me so extremely jaded and cynical!

Let's hope that's the case.

Would like to see the "depression"that folks have carried

since the last few elections(and sep 11) get lifted.

Would be a very good thing.

Just would like their decisions to be based on KNOWLEDGE

and not mere propaganda.

or on them just following the sheep to the slaoughter.

Do have hope that folks are intelligent and informed when making such a decision?

Also think "he" (president) is mostly just a figurehead.

And it's funny how upsetting this all is to me because of that.

It's made it easy to see where some of this child's attachments lay!

It's been fun to watch and I'm sure will continue to be interesting!

They all speak with forked tongues ...

LOL, Hey ?

Maybe they are all of the reptilian race after all!

Should be fun to watch!

Stay well,

Shon

Could anyone give me some clear information about our new president's true believe (religion, philosophy) ? I heard many information, such as Christian, Muslim, Marxist (communist), socialist etc.

Wikipedia says:

Obama is a Christian whose religious views have evolved in his adult life. In The Audacity of Hope, Obama writes that he "was not raised in a religious household." He describes his mother, raised by non-religious parents (whom Obama has specified elsewhere as "non-practicing Methodists and Baptists") to be detached from religion, yet "in many ways the most spiritually awakened person that I have ever known." He describes his father as "raised a Muslim", but a "confirmed atheist" by the time his parents met, and his stepfather as "a man who saw religion as not particularly useful." In the book, Obama explains how, through working with black churches as a community organizer while in his twenties, he came to understand "the power of the African-American religious tradition to spur social change."[188][189] He was baptized at Trinity United Church of Christ in 1988.[190][191]

I'm not clear about the drama of his pre-pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and his church(Trinity United Church of Christ). Obama resigned from Trinity Church. Did the new president go to some other church ?

I think he did.

This is from wikipedia:

The Jeremiah Wright controversy gained national attention in March 2008 when ABC News, after reviewing dozens of Wright's sermons,[25] excerpted parts which were subject to intense media scrutiny.[26][27] Wright is the former pastor of President-elect of the United States Barack Obama.[28] Obama denounced the statements in question, but after critics continued to press the issue of his relationship with Wright he gave a speech titled "A More Perfect Union", in which he sought to place Dr. Wright's comments in a historical and sociological context. In the speech, Obama again denounced Wright's remarks, but did not disown him as a person. The controversy began to fade, but was renewed in late April when Wright made a series of media appearances, including an interview on Bill Moyers Journal, a speech at the NAACP and a speech at the National Press Club.[29] After the last of these, Obama spoke more forcefully against his former pastor, saying that he was "outraged" and "saddened" by his behavior, and in May he resigned his membership in the church.[30]

I'm sure you could find Wright's controversial speeches by doing a google search. I heard bits and pieces of them on the radio back in April, and it was kind of weird.

Obama is a self-avowed Christian...who went to the same church for years.

He is also a strong supporter of Israel & Zionism.

Therefore, being a Christian Zionist...he is actually ideologically & politically, about as "anti-Muslim" as you can get. Don't let the name fool ya.

I don't think he is a Marxist/Commy/Socialist, though. I mean, for all the Republicans' talk about being against big government, the government/military ballooned to obscene proportions under Dubya. I mean, just obscenely...

So, I'm hoping that even in the worst case, there's no way Obama could possibly do as bad as Dubya did in 8 years. And hopefully, he'll do much better (although Ron Paul was the real candidate for real change). I'm just at least thrilled to finally get Dr. Evil out of office, though!!! Good riddance!

Yea.

About whether Obama is a socialist or not...well people who are republican tend to call all democrats socialists...that's all it is.

You would do well not to report as fact something you didn't check.

Here IS a fact. In September of this year the Obama campaign raised $1,500,00.00 dollars.

He raised this in large part from 650,000 FIRST TIME donors.

Average donation $83 dollars per!!

Yeah, that sounds like a corporate consipiracy to me alrighty

So his funds came in a very major way, from individual donors.

It is possible to counteract the power of corporate lobbyist by having an ACTIVE electorate who are willing and ready to participate, take action and contribute.

There is no democracy WITHOUT PARTICIPATION.

Refusing to vote in this election is mind boggling to me. Everyone has their own way, but come on!

If I were in charge it would be MANDATORY to vote in every election.

For a very long time it has been the goal of certain groups to encourage people NOT to vote, not to participate.

They count on apathy and cynicism. Not to mention deliberate dumbing down of the populace and propaganda. There is still MASSIVE disenfranchisement going on in the US. The democrats won this time because they were able to massively overcome these efforts by sheer numbers.

I was literally prepared to leave this country if the fascists won another one.

We have a lot of work to do. It is not over. America has a lot to answer for. Not the least of which is the willingness to look the other way when atrocities are committed around the globe in our name.

If you are an American you damn well had better stay active and encourage everyone you know to wake up.

The corporatist (a mild euphemism for FASCIST) wing of the Democratic party is strong too. Do you think they wanted Obama to win this? I suspect not, but I could be wrong. Corporations have always funded BOTH parties. The funds ebb and flow from side to side, but predominantly flow to right wing republicans. To damn democrats or Obama for taking corporate funds is to not see the whole picture.

At least we have hope now, where before there was nothing but black humor to turn to.

END RANT.

And I thought I would never get into politics here.

OH well.

I could promise never to do so again...but I can't.

Craig

Nothing wrong with using this mantra if it works for you.

I kept seeing people saying "vote vote vote" and it was pretty annoying! Why? Well...

I didn't like either candidate. Writing someone in wouldn't have made any difference, besides the fact that I didn't have anyone that I liked to write in.

So sometimes there's a good reason for a person to not vote. If it were mandatory, I would've flipped a coin.

Hahaha, yup.

I tried the enie-minie-moe(sp?) thing .... just for kicks

but i didn't like the one i picked :)

Lol, didn't see the spot to write in a name until after the fact.

Would have wrote in Willie Nelson!

Hey? He already knows the white house well enough!

Right? :D and I Like Him.

And He is a Black belt in Aikido!

He's been exposed to the real working folks and to the big corporate world.

He Knows the issues facing out country

and facing our world?

He'd plant sunflowers around the white house

and have parties on the roof!

For better or worse, lol, I would have written him in.

Wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Still don't like the choices.

Like seeing folks so happy and relieved though

even if i don't share their elation!

For me the act was just for the act itself.

Voting for the sake of voting.

An act for the future generations

and for fear of my ancestors

knocking my head real hard if i didn't!!!

... U think I'm kidding! ;)

Shon

do believe in voting

But the ways things are done ... : (

i just don't know.

Willie Nelson is a black belt in aikido?

Hi

Whoops?

No, He is not?

Sorry about that!

I had thought it Was Aikido???

He is actually a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Had seen a video when he first got it and somehow my mind

recalls it being swoopy and circular, LOL?

I could see him doing Aikido!

guess T.K.D. is ok still though?

Know an old Vietnamese man that does TKD.

Very Scary old man!!!

...that could kick this bad tail in a heart beat!

Only one I've met yet that can really use it well

but haven't met so many?

Not sure about Willie's abilities but ...

Still would like him sitting in the white house!

It's been fun to watch folks reactions to all this.
