Long Yun Posted January 14, 2009 Is there a reason that the gyuto monks chant the way they do? I can do it and I do quite frequently, so I was wondering if it has any tantric or energetic purpose besides just being their style of chanting.

Vajrasattva Posted January 14, 2009 Stimulates the "hara" and causes subtle vibrations in Nadis that help to further awaken energy. Â Also very healing.
agharta Posted January 15, 2009 I was taught a Tibetan form called "Suhn Pre Lhags Pa" that involves extremely low-pitched vocalizing. I am pretty sure it opens up the capillaries, and it is helpful in cold weather to keep you warm, which is part of why (I think) it was developed in Tibet. Also, I was taught that that form is very good for the liver and kidneys.

Trunk Posted January 15, 2009 The deal is to be able to vibrate different areas of the body with different tones. Forget about the vocal chords. With the very low tones your perineum should vibrate. The higher tones vibrate glands in the brain. That sort of thing.
Long Yun Posted January 16, 2009 I'll try that, thanks
