Wealth & The Tao

Recommended Posts

In any case I do not think wealth is a symbol of any sort of attainment other than the attainment of the materialistic stuff that is the wealth itself - energies are applied and often manifest in the direction sought - but not always - if it is not meant to be -it ain't gonna happen!-

I completely agree. I don't think you will *necessarily* always find the material / spiritual split. It only indicates that physical material wealth is what most people in the US an elsewhere are working towards. Many of us are not encouraged to find spiritual or religious fulfillment, and so we don't work towards that.

So, I don't think it's a matter of "You can't be spiritual wealthy if you are materially wealthy". Rather, it means "You've worked hard for the material, now you are going to need to work harder for the spiritual."

On a lovely rainy saturday,

Daochild

Just an "aside" - I notice that we now have over 32,000 Tao Bums !! :P

It may be that we can perform some greater service as a group... Using our collective resources to lend a Taoist hand as it were... Most of the people I know who are affiliated with religious/spiritual/philisophical groups - think of their membership as a resource that offers them some good-will and support...

I for one think that we offer that here already... What more can we do?

In the good old days we had a slogan -"Spread the wealth..." It seemed fair-minded then and seems somewhat socialist now - :D

But I also find little to fault socialism for these days. The excesses of cut-throat capitalism and the miasma of trickle down economics -needs to be suplanted with a better system that grows our economy from the bottom up rather than the top-down... as has been the case for much of the past century...

Goldisheavy,

if I ever become a highly spiritual person, I'll let you know how it goes. With a bit of luck all else will be added unto me in sufficient quantities.

One very simple idea that was predented to me recently is that of a maximum wage, expressed as a multiple (say x 10 or 15) of the national average wage.

That way, if anyone feels they really, really need more than about 300,000 a year, they have work to improve everyone else's lives to get it.

Don't know if it would work, but I love the concept.

Me too have to say. Anyone have any idea why it wouldn't work, if stuck to? NW

YAY! a wonderful idea!- But the human powers that be (getting so filthy rich)- may disapprove...

It may be that it is best that we should eat them, before they amass their minions? :P
