Marblehead Posted March 19, 2010 Good song from Fleetwood Mac. I actually liked there earlier stuff more than I did the later stuff. I had to stop the second one after 30 seconds. Just couldn't take it. Right now I'm listening to these guys: Peace & Love!
Trunk Posted March 19, 2010 I've been exploring music more (guitar, voice) and find just amazing stuff on youtube. Some interviews with greats, how they experience their music. George Benson There's a 6 part interview w/ George Benson that . He plays and talks. I don't understand hardly any of the technical points, but I get a window into his process. He's an explorer. He's having fun. He's feeling and trying new things... His style of playing is not even really my favorite or anything - but the process, human ~ music. Marblehead Posted March 21, 2010 oh never mind. She wrote Stairway to Heaven as well!!! Yeah, well, what can I say? I was listening to stuff like this this morning: http://www.truveo.com/The-Clovers-Lovey-Dovey/id/2433467344 My had better quality though as it is the studio version. I have since switched music styles and am now litening to some Swamp Pop music. Peace & Love!
Trunk Posted March 21, 2010 Didn't know Nile Rogers so I went to Wiki to see about him. I found out about Nile Rodgers (about to read the wiki link now, thanks) because I wanted to explore some funk~disco rhythms on guitar, and searched for some old songs from the '70s. I found the guitar for several songs especially cool, we are family by sister sledge, i'm coming out by diana ross, and good times by chic. Turns out that Nile Rodgers wrote all three songs and played the guitar on each. Couple more vids for guitar geeks, in a jazz direction. Original video of Django Reinhardt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iJ7bs4mTUY next, a guy talks about Django's playing style (gotta just endure the awful intro music, thankfully short)
Marblehead Posted March 22, 2010 Hi Trunk, Yeah, I really enjoy Django's music. I do have one CD of his but would like to have more. Another guitarist one can learn much from is Doc Watson. Doc played with Norman Blake (who is a excellent guitarist in his own right) on one of Norman's albums and Norman asked Doc, "Would you do something for our listeners today that they have never heard before?" Doc replied, "I'll try. What is it?" Norman asks, "Would you make a mistake? Most people have never heard you do that." This morning I am listening to this style of music: Rock-a-billy! (Actually, at the moment a mix of Charlie Feathers and Commander Cody is playing.) Peace & Love!
Marblehead Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Listening to traditional Bluegrass music today. A note to the jazz lovers here, "Harlem Nocturne" is one of the few jazz songs I actually enjoy listening to. I was messing around with that song yesterday and found over 100 different recordings of it. It is a song for sax but I found it in piano, harp, guitar, and vocal as well. Don't know if any of them were with clarinet but I can imagine it would sound really nice done with clarinet. (Pete Fountain is my favorite clarinet player.) (Of course, not to forget, Earl Bostic is my favorite sax player even though there were some really good sax players during the DooWop era.) Peace & Love! I have a cd called "Ultra Lounge: the Crime Scene" has harlem nocturne and bunches o' secret agent music on it. Shelly sings to Maggie...
Marblehead Posted March 23, 2010 Yeah, that is a good song. I remember it from many years ago. Is the version of Harlem Nocturne you have by the Spike Jones New Band? Peace & Love!

Marblehead Posted March 24, 2010 Marblehead, I don't think you'll like this, but it's what I've been listening to lately. Hi Scotty, Okay, I listened to the whole song. Hehehe. It was acceptable but I wouldn't pay 99 cents to download it. Actually, the song and the presentation has very strong roots in psychadelic music, which I enjoy listening to, especially the 13th Floor Elevators music. Today I am listening to the roots of R&B music from the 1940's and 50's. Peace & Love!
Marblehead Posted March 27, 2010 So I had my music player going yesterday and these guys had their turn. I have always loved this song from the first time I heard it but have no idea why. Still love it though. Peace & Love!
Marblehead Posted March 28, 2010 Today I am listening to a group that, to the best of my knowledge I have never heard before: I found them in a category of music called Glam. And yes, she is a guy. Peace & Love!

Marblehead Posted March 28, 2010 Yep. That album just finished playing. At the moment there is the sound of silence. I will be leaving the computer shortly in order to exercise and will listen to 'my' music (no idea yet which button I will push) while exercising. Peace & Love! Marblehead Posted March 28, 2010 Finished exercising. The "Zydeco/Cajun" button was pushed to keep me company. (I also have a "Cajun/Zydeco" button. It's the same except that it is different.) Peace & Love!

Marblehead Posted March 30, 2010 Now back to some real manly music - 'saving laser's cold' -- see you soon! That was nice and cute too. I've been listening to swamp pop music all day today. Peace & Love!
Apech Posted March 31, 2010 Its gone cold again here - bloody freezing wind and snowing in some places. This is just to remind me that summer exists ... and I was born in Cambridge.
Marblehead Posted March 31, 2010 Yeah, beautiful scenery. Hang in there. Better weather is just around the corner. I'm listening to old blues today while working outside. Mostly Delta Blues with some Chicago Blues mised in. The temp is actually supposed to be about 2 degrees above normal today. It is really beautiful outside. But there is work to do so I can just sit and enjoy it. There'll be time for that after the work is done. Peace & Love!
Trunk Posted April 1, 2010 I discovered Chris Smither in the 90's, happened to look him up today on youtube - found a newer song. Wow, how much goes into making that! He's a foot tapper - provides drums for his song. I think he has a special platform (maybe mic setup) to more effective sound his stomps. And the lyrics! Wow, that took a lot of work to map that all out and make it into something fun & clever that rhythmically rhymes! Yikes! And the practice to put it all together with the guts to do it in front of people!?!?! FUN! ORIGIN OF SPECIESby Chris Smither Well, Eve told Adam Snakes? I've had 'em! Let's get outta here! 'n go raise this family someplace outta town. They left the garden just in time With the landlord cussin' right behind. They headed East, and finally settled down. One thing led to another: A bunch of sons, One killed his brother And they kicked him out with nothin' but his clothes. the human race survived 'Cause those brothers all found wives But where they came from Ain't nobody knows. Then came the flood Go figure... Just like New Orleans only bigger. No one who couldn't swim would make it through. Well, the lucky ones were on a boat Think "circus" And then make it float and hope nobody pulls the plug on you! How they fed that crowd is a mystery. It ain't down in the history, but it's a cinch they didn't live on cakes and jam. Lions don't eat cabbage And in spite of that old adage, I ain't (/ you will) never seen one Lie down with a lamb. Well, Charlie Darwin looked so far Into the way things are. He caught a glimpse of God's unfolding plan. God said: "I'll make some DNA" They can use it any way they want From paramecium Right up to man." "They'll have sex And mix up sections of their code They'll have mutations... The whole thing works like clockwork over time." "I'll just sit back in the shade While everyone gets laid. That's what I call Intelligent design." Yeah, you and your cat named Felix, You both wrapped up in that double helix, Is what we call Intelligent design.
