Nintendao Posted July 28, 2019 THE FLOWER DUET from LAKME by Leo Delibes, new English translation by Joel Sattler LAKMÉ: Look Mallika! Lianes are in bloom Casting downward their shadows Over the sacred stream that flows calm and somber Awakened by the sound of the song-happy birds! MALLIKA: Oh dear mistress! It's time at last I see you smiling The time has come and I am reading What was closed up in the heart of Lakme! LAKMÉ [in duet with Mallika, below] Dome canopy sweet jasmine All the roses forever Flowers in the morn freshly born Call us to come together Ah glide along and sing along The current so strong The sun so hot the water is shimmering Hand skimming the surface nonchalantly Cutting through the edge While birds are singing singing sing enchanted Dome canopy white jasmine Call us to come together Please MALLIKA [in duet with Lakme, above]: Under dome canopy where the white jasmine All the roses forever River flowers in the morn freshly born Let us both go down together Gently we glide on and we float along Follow the current so strong The sun so hot the water is shimmering Hand skimming the surface nonchalantly Come let us reach the edge Where the spring sleeps And birds singing, sing enchanted Under dome canopy where the white jasmine Let us go down together LAKME: I, don't know what overcame me To fill my heart full of fear When my father goes down alone to the doomed city I tremble, I tremble, my dear MALLIKA: Ganesha will watch over his protege Up til the pond where the merry do play With wings of snow swans are swimming Come let us pick the lotus blue LAKME: Oh yes, let's go where white swans are swimming And let us pick the lotus blue LAKMÉ [in duet with Mallika, below] Dome canopy sweet jasmine All the roses forever Flowers in the morn freshly born Call us to come together Ah glide along and sing along The current so strong The sun so hot the water is shimmering Hand skimming the surface nonchalantly Cutting through the edge While birds are singing singing sing enchanted Dome canopy white jasmine Call us to come together Please MALLIKA [in duet with Lakme, above]: Under dome canopy where the white jasmine All the roses forever River flowers in the morn freshly born Let us both go down together Gently we glide on and we float along Follow the current so strong The sun so hot the water is shimmering Hand skimming the surface nonchalantly Come let us reach the edge Where the spring sleeps And birds singing, sing enchanted Under dome canopy where the white jasmine Let us go down together _______________________ Original lyrics in French by Edmond Gondinet : LAKMÉ Viens, Mallika, les lianes en fleurs Jettent déjà leur ombre Sur le ruisseau sacré qui coule, calme et sombre, Eveillé par le chant des oiseaux tapageurs! With all the talk of leftwing/right wing politics bullshit, and the banning of members for expressing their views(albeit in a rude manner), here is a slice of pure British anarchist punk from 1980. Crass were, and still are, one of my favourites. This is true anarchism. In the lyrics of one of their other songs "Left wing/Right wing, you can stuff the lot" 1

lifeforce Posted July 28, 2019 More Crass. The lyrics relate to the recent political shenanigans here.

I enjoy the genre, but I really appreciate the ones that have dedicated film, animated or otherwise, for the entire album. Their vision shows through, and work like that must have been in the making for quite some time... Edited July 30, 2019 by neti neti
neti neti Posted July 30, 2019 I can't help but imagine Michael Jackson as the lead here. A classic nonetheless...

silent thunder Posted August 4, 2019 William Ackerman, through his guitar and particularly through his arrangements on this album with its particular progressions, enlivens, or brings awareness and presence to notions within my sense of self, that abide beyond words. Through his music... upon hearing that which arises from his mind and is transmitted through his fingers, to his instrument, through the air and to my ears and thus my mind... I find such familiarity, harmonic resonance and peaceful exuberance that words are unecessary, impotent even and I simply abide in the knowing flow of the music. It causes a recurring question without a pat answer to arise again in my mind which is... where does music live? Is it in the mind of the musician? In the breath, fingers or strings and valves of the instrument? In the air? In the mind of the listener? A friend of 3 decades recently prompted me to begin a list of the albums I have most listened to in their entirety, front to back in my life. This one, is high on the list. Top Five. Perfect Sunday Simplicity.
