Â Self (in the conventional sense): This is the collection of memories and thoughts composted of our internal and external conditioning. Â Not-Self (based on the previous definition): This is the source, spirit, life energy, force, God, awareness, consciousness, subjectivity itself, etc. Â When these concepts are not seen in conflict with one another then there is Truth. Mak_Tin_Si Posted April 7, 2009 In chinese Not-self is 無我, = No "me".  This in taoism translated to - there is no "me". The reason to say this is because you are part of nature too, if you can blend yourself with nature, there is not much difference between you and nature, so why is there a "YOU"?
